Serge Wasersztrum, membre du bureau de la Société Internationale d'Histoire de la Psychiatrie et de la Psychanalyse et qui a exercé la neurologie, la psychiatrie et la psychanalyse a effectué le choix des ouvrages et leur présentation.
Issu de la dernière promotion française de neuro-psychiatrie avant la séparation de ces disciplines tant dans leur enseignement que dans leur exercice. Il a particulièrement tenu par ce catalogue a réaffirmer l'origine commune des sources historiques des neurosciences, ainsi qu'à rendre hommage aux précurseurs connus ou inconnus, aux maîtres et aux praticiens qui sont les premiers maillons d'une chaîne qui va jusqu'à nos jours.
